Mary Frances Holmes-4, born in 1831, married Quinton Sarver Bell June 22, 1854, and moved to Sumner County. They had five children. She died January 12, 1913, and is buried at Mt. Vernon Methodist Churchyard. Mary Frances raised her orphaned younger sister, LEATHA-4.

Lucinda Milly Holmes-4, born December 15, 1843, married Sandy [William A.] Escue November 20, 1866. She died November 7, 1922, and is probably buried in Escue Cemetery. VIRGIE JOHNSON was well acquainted with “Aunt Lu.”

Wilson C. Holmes-4, was born 1846, died about 1868. He had no children and was apparently named for his maternal grandmother. His name was an important clue in linking us to the correct THOMAS BELL. He had no issue. His sisters inherited his small estate.
LEATHA A. HOLMES-4, was born May 25, 1851, and married JAMES W. DORRIS. Her mother, MILLEY, had a sister named Leatha and she may have named her daughter for her sister. LEATHA was raised by her sister, Mary Frances Holmes-4 Bell, after their parents died when she was a toddler. Her TURNER grandparents lived until she was nearly grown, but all of her HOLMES ancestors were dead by the time she was a small child. Her daughter, SARAH ALICE DORRIS, would name her own daughter, LEATHA VIRGIE JOHNSON. LEATHA A. HOLMES died at age 21, leaving her own daughters orphans.
